University Hospitals Transplant Institute Offers Patients Another Chance at Life

An organ transplant is more than just a surgical procedure; it is a complex quest to extend life, requiring a diverse team of professionals from University Hospitals Transplant Institute. Our team of specialists has many years of experience in providing patient-centered care for transplant recipients.

Transplants occur throughout the country on a daily basis, with varying results. That is why it is so important for patients, referring physicians and managed care professionals to be armed with good information about the transplant centers that serve their communities. The best centers are those that employ the most comprehensive and experienced multidisciplinary teams to manage all aspects of care for the patient – before, during and after surgery. We know the word "transplant" can be scary. At UH Transplant Institute, we want to help individuals make educated and informed decisions about transplantation.

Celebrating Over 40 Years of Transplantation Services

Since we began offering transplantation services in 1968, University Hospitals has performed more than 3,000 solid organ transplants for adults and children. The program is equipped to offer patients transplants of the heart, lung, kidney, liver and pancreas. Our success rates are excellent – at or above the national averages. We help to ensure the highest rate of surgical success, so that patients who undergo transplant procedures at UH are able to begin living much more normal lives, whether that means working, taking a long walk, sitting through a movie, helping others or resuming the role of active family participant.
