Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Pediatric Surgery Center
The Elisabeth Severence Prentiss is the only surgical facility in Northeast Ohio designed solely and specifically for pediatric patients. Rainbow’s pediatric anesthesiologists are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and manage all the pediatric anesthesia cases in the hospital.
Pre-Participation Exams for Injury Prevention
A comprehensive physical exam conducted before a child participates in sports can help identify problems that might pre-dispose the child to injury. Our pre-participation exams include assessment of the child’s flexibility, strength and balance, limb length, foot imbalance, joint stability and posture. We also address any medical issues related to sports, such as asthma. In addition, our Rehab team can conduct performance enhancement and injury prevention exams to test the child in action to determine fitness ability and areas for improvement. A complete report of your child’s performance is provided to your primary physician and/or the child’s coach.
Rainbow’s sports medicine experts can counsel you and your child on the child’s energy needs and how to maintain a healthy diet. We can also help with eating-disorder issues and bone density health, an important issue affecting many young female athletes. Our physicians understand the dangers of premature osteoporosis and what’s needed to correct bone loss before it becomes irreversible.
Our rehabilitation team offers young athletes a performance-enhancement program to help them improve their game. This program, offered weekly in small classes at local health clubs, measures your child’s current abilities – including agility, strength and jumping.
