For the fourth consecutive year, University Hospitals – Geneva Medical Center (UH-MHG) is proud to have been the recipient of a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northeast Ohio Affiliate. This series of grants has enabled UH-GMC, select affiliated healthcare providers, the UH-MHG community educator, ancillary healthcare professionals, clerical professionals and volunteers to combine their talents to educate, examine, evaluate and distribute breast health information and services to women (and men) in the northeast Ohio service area of UH-GMC.
The 2007-2008 Komen for the Cure grant to UH-GMC supports a program that allows free clinical breast examinations and free mammograms for uninsured women ages 40-64 who are without insurance, and are financially eligible for the program. This program is needs-based. Women are asked to submit documentation showing household income, and those who fall into an income range as designated by the Federal government, are accepted.
Additionally, the grant provides for UH-MHG’s community educator and other healthcare professionals to teach breast health information to the entire northeast Ohio service area of University Hospitals – Geneva Medical Center. This educational initiative, combined with the breast health clinical services funded by the grant, has touched the lives of over 2,000 persons in the UH-MHG service area.
For further information on this program, including both the education component, as well as qualifying for the free mammogram program, please call the University Hospitals – Geneva Medical Center community educator, Lori Ann Slimmer, RN at 415-0180.
