UH Geneva Medical Center is proud to welcome Sam Ahuja, MD, a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist, and Medical Director of G.Y.Novations, a new outpatient program that focuses on progressive gynecological alternatives for women of every age.
G.Y.Novations at UH Geneva Medical Center specializes in non- and minimally invasive treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and Overactive Bladder.
When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll be evaluated by a physician and a nurse using advanced urodynamics – a private, non-surgical test which determines how well your bladder is functioning so that precise, effective treatment can be prescribed based on your specific condition.
Stress Urinary Incontinence occurs when you cough, sneeze, laugh or perform strenuous physical activities. The leakage is due to weakened pelvic floor muscles, often as a result of childbirth. To treat this very common condition, the G.Y.Novations team specializes in the minimally-invasive insertion of a sub-urethral sling – a fine, knitted mesh that supports your body’s natural tissues to reduce or stop the leakage. As an outpatient, you’ll return home within a few hours following the 30-minute procedure, and you can usually resume full activities within two weeks. SUI sling surgery has a 90 percent success rate.
Overactive Bladder is a chronic condition in which you feel a sudden urge to urinate, which often means you won’t be able to make it to the bathroom in time. For this type of leakage, our physicians focus on behavior modification, exercise routines and medicinal treatments which correct or vastly improve the condition over time in 80 percent of all cases. Surgery is considered only as a last resort.
If urinary incontinence is compromising your active life, practical, personalized help is available at G.Y.Novations.
